Peripheral venous cannula or branul , belongs to the family of cannulas.
Mandrin or guide needle: used to puncture the vein and guide the branula;
the tube is made of plastic (Teflon), can be detected by X-ray, which is important in the event of a puncture.
Use of the venous cannula:
After proper disinfection, insertion is made at a blunt angle over the vein. When the blood appears in the small window, the stylet is pushed up into the vein by about 2 mm using the clamping wings, while the position of the stylet remains unchanged. Once the plastic tube is fully in the vein, the stylet is removed, an infusion set is attached to the connector or filled with sterile fluid (heparin solution, 0.9% saline, etc.) and plugged. Finally, it is properly secured to the skin.
